Switching from Calor gas to Flogas Gas Light

Paul Dixon • 18 May 2017

Step by step guide to ordering, cost and the result

Ordering could not be easier as the website takes you through it step by step. I ordered 2 x 5kg FlogasGas Light cylinders and a pigtail. The cylinders cost £27 each (£12 for the cylinder and £15 for the gas) the pigtail is £30. Entered the CNI discount code and got the £4 off and free 3-5 working day delivery (was over £12 without the code).

The way things work after the initial order. You will still pay £27 per 5 kg bottle ordered but when the empty cylinder is returned to Flogasyou will get a £12 refund on the cylinder charge. obviously have not tried this yet but the website states the empty cylinder will be collected the day after your delivery. This means you will only have paid £15 for the gas (less your £4 CNI discount, making it £11 to get a full cylinder).

Order placed on Friday afternoon. imagine my surprise when the cylinders arrived on Monday morning!! The pigtail arrived on Wednesday as it comes through the post from a different part of Flogas.

It is hard to believe how light these cylinders are without getting your hands on one.

Switch Over Day

To see if the experiment worked I checked the nose weight of my caravan prior to starting. It came in at 75 kg.

Current installation is 2 x 6 kg Calor Gas cylinders (1 Full and 1 approx 1/4 full).

Old cylinders and pigtail removed and new ones installed, they are not as tall but are slightly wider than the Calor. managed to get them seated OK on the floor mounts, when putting the securing straps it was noticeable how much wider they are as the straps only just went round, but it was still enough to secure them.

Final result for me, new nose weight 65 kg, yes that is right even with having 2 full 5 kg cylinders on board I have saved 10 kg on the nose weight which should make for a more stable unit (and more stuff the wife can pack).

Verdict

If you can afford to change and are struggling with nose weight issues or are tight on your overall weight in the caravan then for me this is a must. Forgot to mention that due to the cylinders construction it makes them semi see through so with a bit of light behind the bottle you can see the gas level.
