WHAT IS CRIS?
The Central Registration and Identification Scheme
CRiS is the national register for UK manufactured touring caravans. The scheme assists thousands of people each month to make informed decisions when buying or selling a caravan and helps to keep it protected.
All touring caravans manufactured in the UK since 1992 are registered on the CRiS database, and since 2016 UK manufacturers have adopted VIN Chip, a theft deterrent and identification system. Your unique VIN and the caravan description are recorded on the Touring Caravan Registration Document, which is sent by CRiS to the caravan’s registered keeper.
CRiS Registration is important for caravan owners as it proves you are the registered keeper. The CRiS database links a caravan’s unique 17-digit VIN to a CRiS keeper record.
CRiS Registration is important for many reasons including:
• Proves you are the registered keeper
• Helps manufacturer product recalls and warranty
• It assists the police and enforcement agencies with identification and recovery.
• Many insurance companies require a CRiS registration document before processing a claim
• It helps to ease a potential future sale..
• It is a legal requirement to have a caravan registered in some countries.
